WiCKeD Update - Absolutely SPECTACULAR!!!

Well hubby and I saw Wicked last night,

it was...

FANTASTIC!!

Loved how they intertwined the stories...

What you thought was the true story with Dorothy In The Wizard of OZ, isn't!...

There are reasons for all that you thought you knew - and witches, wizards, and other creatures within Oz aren't who you think...

The pics I've posted are not of the stage players we saw - these are previous stage players from years past...

Playing Glinda (GA-Linda if you please!) was Katie Rose Clark (fabulous!) - and playing my new fav heroine (even though she is a witch!) Elphaba (the 'Wicked' Witch) was Mamie Parris, who's singing and voice talents are still humming in my head...she was sooooo awesome!

Well worth the money to see, do not hesitate to pay extra $ for great seats, you will not regret it!

I actually did not want it to end...

Yes, I'm undoubtedly hooked!

Oh, and yes, I got plenty of ideas for new creations to create! Oh how WiCKeD of me!

I did say that I was going to meet my goal to work everyday on creating at least 30 beloved 'dearly departed' and gruesome lovelies, didn't I?

BUT...

I have a real good - no, better than good reason not to JUST FOR TODAY.

My hubby bought us tix for a Christmas present to me, and the show is tonight! Safe to say I am soooooooooo excited!

And oh, I just thought of something - I'll still be 'working' somewhat - I'll be getting inspiration from the 2 most famous witches in cinema and theater history! So let's consider it a 'field trip'!

It has been a lllooooonnnggg time since my last post! WOW! I didn't realize that I was that far behind! DANG!

After the Halloween Show for Sugar Plum things got real busy and hectic - I mean time actually and literally FLEW. With my studio/supplies growing, my son graduating, my daughter sprouting, my house changing...wow, I'm exhausted just thinking about it! (And PLEASE don't mention the playoff loss of my beloved Packers - RIP).

But, even though we are 3 weeks into January, I want to announce somewhat of a 'new year' resolution!:

So there are, as of today, 287 days till Halloween! Cannot wait!

A I stated, I usually do a Halloween art show in the beginning of October - and you'd think that every year I'd learn and follow my good intentions to be better prepared for it - but my good intentions never come to pass and I run around like a CrAzY person with hot glue burns, glitter and paint on my face, and thread on my clothes like a map of many rivers! And don't get me started on bedtimes during this hectic and magical time - I might as well not sleep!

THIS YEAR is the year where I will make good on my intentions! My goal is to create 30 new Halloween doll creations WWWAAAAYYY before the show - helping me delight early in the merriment of Hallows Eve, avoid any burns and exhaustion - and be better prepared, and to be able to share my ghoulish creations without tardiness!

I plan to blog my progress to keep me on my toes and on schedule.

Currently in my studio to be completed is:

ANNE BOLEYN and MRS. LOVETT (yes, still incomplete from last fall - YIKES!)

..and so it begins!!!

I am also VERY PROUD to announce that I have been accepted as a member of 'Halloween Art Exhibit' with so many fabulous artists! I am so giddy with excitement!!! The artistry of the artists within this group literally makes my mouth drop!

FINALLY!!

As hubby and I try to complete sanding, painting, and what-nots from the back of the house forward - we finally got 90% of my studio done a few months ago -

But due to Halloween at Sugar Plum I had no time to share pics of my studio until now!

I found this old wood cabinet about 1 year ago - the dark brown trim is original (naturally crackled - love it!) - the tan I rubbed in with a dry cloth to give an antiqued look. The skulls and other goodies are those plastic/rubber thingies for windows.

I put fairly lights in my Halloween paper lanterns that hang above my work/sewing desk - at night it looks even better!

Out my window are 2 of 6 orange trees on my property.

Hanging is also skull lights, glittered skeletons, BOO, and a witch hat!

Goodies, goodies goodies - 1000's of bobbins of thread, 100's of paint bottles, scents, inks, stamps, etc. etc. etc.! A basket of tubes on left and a huge antique wood chest underneath LOADED with even more supplies. There's an antique wooden table I use as a small work area when creating - right now it is collecting Halloween items marked done on clearance (stocking up right now for next year!)

EVEN MORE STORAGE!!!

And yes, they are all full - but trust me all of it I use!!! The cabinet on the right I decorated with antique music sheets.

Above my work/sewing desk are items to inspire me as I create, as well as collectible items.

As you can see - SKULLS, SKULLS, SKELETONS, PIRATES, HALLOWEEN !!!

My biggest inspiration is Emily - the Corpse Bride! Jack and Sally are behind her, along with other Disney collectibles.

Halloween goodies, glass tombstones, Monster High doll (yes, I am a goof), and an undead monkey!

Skelanimals (dead animals need love too!), Halloween and yes EDWARD!

Pirate hat hanging off the end!

Tim Burton's Art Exhibition !

Hubby and I spend a day together enjoying each other's company as well as Tim Burton's twisted and creative art at LACMA yesterday...

This is at the will call area were we picked up our tickets...and so it begins!

The bummer part of the day at the museum?

NO PICTURE TAKING ALLOWED INSIDE!!! CRAP!!!!

The pic above is the last time you were allowed to have your camera out (as well as your phone). This is the entrance to the exhibit - you walk in under the teeth...

So - at the end of the exhibit is a shop of Tim Burton goodies - and there was a complete compilation of ALL of Tim Burton's art works that were on exhibit -

so my adoring hubby bought me an early Christmas present (he knew how much I wanted to take pics of Tim Burton's wonderful creations)...

...so enjoy (some pics are blurry - sorry!)

Many of Tim Burton's works have a wicked sense of humor - you have to chuckle a little!

(Titled: NEVER SHOOT A CONSTIPATED POODLE)

The detailing on many of his sketches is just fantastic...

In the art book, Tim Burton (as well as his wife, Helena Bonham Carter) state he is a people watcher - almost addicted to it - watching people interact with each other and going about their daily lives...

Wherever he is - here in the USA or throughout the world - he makes time to people watch...scribbling on anything he has accessible to sketch!

This is Joey Ramone (of The Ramones) - Tim Burton grew up listening to punk rock...

He obviously thinks out of the box - and then some!

Love the vivid colors!

His monsters creepy - but yet, you can't look away!

In the book - his wife (Helena Bonham Carter) states that Tim Burton sometimes has a hard time describing what he needs or wants verbally when it comes to character design to creators and actors, so he takes out his sketch pad and is able to fully describe to everyone exactly what he wants - and all involved receive it just as he see's it!

This is Tim's Burton's sketching of "The Corpse Bride" (my fav!) - the creators knew exactly what Tim Burton wanted (and expected!).

His work is a little twisted - sometimes demented (still love it!) - but it has heart!

I'd have to say the biggest amount of exhibit go-ers were in the "Nightmare Before Christmas" room...

something about Jack has everyone excited!

Tim Burton usually just works with inks and watercolors...

Helena Bonham Carter states that Tim Burton is an insomniac - rarely sleeps well -

probably due to the fact his mind is continuously creating and thinking!

Ouch - and yet LOL!

Tim Burton did receive a scholarship to Cal Arts where Disney had just set up a training school there -

he was eventually hired by Disney, but Tim Burton fell into a depression working for Disney due to being told what to draw and not being able to express himself. Disney did not understand Tim Burton's creativity and ideas.

He soon created what he desired to create from his heart on his own...

I'd say a successful decision!

Tim Burton's sketch of the Mad Hatter on how HE wanted the Hatter 'portrayed'.

In Tim Burton's art book Helena Bonham Carter states that many assume that she is offered a role in almost all of Tim Burton's movies - not true.

Tim Burton sketches out everything first - before casting -

and it sketches everything out as he see's it in his mind. In the end, he looks at his drawings an realizes that his sketching resembles Helena and therefore in his creative mind she is the Red Queen!

Love the Headless Horseman sketch!

Johnny Depp states in the art book that once he saw Tim Burton's drawing of Edward Scissorhands - he grabbed the role - without hardly any other information given! He fell in love with the character/movie the moment he saw Tim Burton's drawing!

Tim Burton actually drew this sketch of Sweeney Todd BEFORE he even met Helena Bonham Carter - but once he dug it out to consider making the movie, he saw the resemblance with his wife and Mrs. Lovett - and so she had to be cast!

WHAT AN AWESOME DAY...!

To be able to spend it with my beautiful hubby (whooya!)...

the puppets used in "Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride"
the HUGE scarecrow statue used in "Sleepy Hollow"
the costumes from "Batman" and "Edward Scissorhands"

...just LOVED IT.

The crowds, not so much - but next time (and advice to you if you desire to go), we won't wait so long to see it - try going a few weeks after it comes out. (or not so close to Halloween).

If your a die hard and have to go now it ends Oct. 31st - you have to buy your tix on-line! The other bummer is the museum doesn't open early on weekdays (but does open earlier on weekends).

Be sure to use parking lot off of Spaulding - it is right across the street from the museum and is only $10 with validation.

A must see for all Tim Burton fans!

I am a HUGE fan of Tim Burton's art and creativity - wicked and twisted (with heart!)

Currently at LACMA there is an exhibition of his art work - from movies, books, and personal pieces - all on display for me to drool and woo over!

And FINALLY this year I get to go tomorrow with hubby on a well deserved DATE DAY that we have been promising one another for the past year!

Well, Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd) made it to Sugar Plum in Costa Mesa this week - but alas, Mrs. Lovett was still 'brewing' in my studio! Not quite done - still needs 'a lil' more work luv'- BUT I am hopeful that she will be attending Sugar Plum next week in Buena Park!

Lizzie Borden...

I am currently creating Lizzie Borden - hopeful she won't get 'axed' (tee hee) from appearing at Sugar Plum Buena Park next week...only because she is not completed!

So I put the answering machine on - throw food on the counter for my teenagers to fend for themselves and lock myself in my studio to get her (and others) done!

In court records Lizzie's alibi was that she was eating pears in the attic of the barn on a very hot summer day, and by no means did she axe her father and stepmother to death - BUT court records also reveal that the house was locked from the INSIDE...

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-

Only this, and nothing more."

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,

And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.

Eagerly I wished the morrow;- vainly I had sought to borrow

From my books surcease of sorrow- sorrow for the lost Lenore-

For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore-

Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain

Thrilled me- filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;

So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating,

"'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door-

Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;-

This it is, and nothing more."

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,

"Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;

But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,

And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,

That I scarce was sure I heard you"- here I opened wide the door;-

Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering,

fearing,

Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;

But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,

And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore!"

This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!"-

Merely this, and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,

Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.

"Surely," said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice:

Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore-

Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;-

'Tis the wind and nothing more."

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and

flutter,

In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore;

Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed

he;

But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door-

Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door-

Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,

By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore.

"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no

craven,

Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore-

Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,

Though its answer little meaning- little relevancy bore;

For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being

Ever yet was blest with seeing bird above his chamber door-

Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,

With such name as "Nevermore."

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only

That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.

Nothing further then he uttered- not a feather then he fluttered-

Till I scarcely more than muttered, "other friends have flown

before-

On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before."

Then the bird said, "Nevermore."

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,

"Doubtless," said I, "what it utters is its only stock and store,

Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster

Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore-

Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore

Of 'Never- nevermore'."

But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling,

Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and

door;

Then upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking

Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore-

What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore

Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing

To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;

This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining

On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamplight gloated o'er,

But whose velvet violet lining with the lamplight gloating o'er,

She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then methought the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer

Swung by Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor.

"Wretch," I cried, "thy God hath lent thee- by these angels he

hath sent thee

Respite- respite and nepenthe, from thy memories of Lenore!

Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!"

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil!- prophet still, if bird or

devil!-

Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,

Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted-

On this home by horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore-

Is there- is there balm in Gilead?- tell me- tell me, I implore!"

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil- prophet still, if bird or

devil!

By that Heaven that bends above us- by that God we both adore-

Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,

It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore-

Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore."

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

"Be that word our sign in parting, bird or fiend," I shrieked,

upstarting-

"Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!

Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!

Leave my loneliness unbroken!- quit the bust above my door!

Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my

door!"

Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting

On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;

And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,

And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the

floor;

And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor

Shall be lifted- nevermore!

NEVERMORE!!!!

OPPS - Blog Technical Difficulties - ALL FIXED...

Well sadly my Blog was experiencing major technical difficulties - all the pics on the blog were removed somehow and I had to reload everything BUT...

There were 300+ casualties that were necessary to get my blog up and running again...

HAD TO DELETE ALL MY POSTS FROM WAY BACK WHEN!!! AAAHHHHH!

But it had to happen because there was NO WAY I was going to be able to replace/load all those pics without going 'postal'...

So I chose to relist posts/pics from the past as well as the present - start fresh and have fun doing so...

Unfortunate but necessary!

So - everyone enjoy - PLEASE post/remark/comment on anything you like...!
